2968 ROMANIA - First Airplane Postcrossing Meet-up in the World

Behold, after the first postcrossing meet-up in a train, which took place on February 29, 2016 on the route Bucharest - Ploieşti, Romanians relapsed in premieres, organizing the first postcrossing meet-up in an airplane, on the route Cluj-Napoca - Bucharest, on February 24, 2017. It is true that to the meet-up attended only two members, Sandor Zaica and Ovidiu Bu, who came to Bucharest to attend the meet-up occasioned by the launch of the first Romanian postcrossing stamp, but they issued a special postcard and signed postcards during the flight, so might be called a postcrossing meet-up.

The picture is from West Point of the Air (1935), a movie about pilot training in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the early 1930s. It was filmed on location at Randolph Field near San Antonio, Texas in the spring of 1934. The film's aerial shots were a combination of live action footage, models, and cockpit mock-ups of Consolidated PT-3 (on the postcard) flight trainers, and aircraft of an earlier vintage, Curtiss Model D (replica), Curtiss JN-4 and Fokker D.VII. Aerial photography was shot by noted aerial cinematographer Elmer Dyer with Hollywood film pilot Paul Mantz (uncredited) performing some of the aerial stunts. Although Mantz was in charge of the aerial portion of the film, Frank Clarke did the majority of the flying in his Travel Air Speedwing.

About the stamp
The stamp is one of the two issued in 2016 to celebrate the Christmas, about which I wrote here.
